My house, My rules... and my wall of shame!

Previous rhetoric --- Stories and rhetoric listing --- Next rhetoric

I’d like to begin setting up a scenario to be able to get my point across here…

Let’s assume I’ve a house with no fence… not one single wall that might keep anybody out.  My house is big and nice, and I make a good living… and it so happens that - one day - some freak breaks into my house, says he’s there to stay under the excuse that he’s not doing so good back home… and - to top it all - he wants me to give him a job and - of course - benefits, and free food and lodging, and blah blah blah… Evidently, I refuse and ask him to leave, I tell

him that  I’ve nothing to offer, and I even threaten to call the police to get him out by force if necessary… My guess is you agree so far!

So, needless to say he now threatens to kill me or sue me if I don’t do what he says and runs off to hide inside a closet.  I find him, call the police… they take him back to his own home and - as soon as he’s out - I build myself a fence around my house I don’t have to relive the circumstances.

Everyone has got to agree that I’ve a right to keep this freak out and that if I really needed him, I would have called him and let him in.  I mean, you cannot force yourself on anyone, right?

Yeah, well… now he’s back and wants to break into my house again under the pretext that I have more and - therefore - in his twisted little psyche he feels he has the right to a piece of my cake… only now, he finds a fence blocking what he believes to be his ‘birthright’… a fence yes… like 99% of the houses in this country.  Fences, walls, or whatever you wanna call them.  So now he has to ring the doorbell and ask for permission to go in…

Think he cares?  Of course not!  So now the freak is frantic and hostile and he climbs up the fence and breaks into my house again… hence… a felony!  I’m sure I don’t have to rationalize this being against the law!

Now he decides to set a up a protest right up front, and goes to court to try get the fence down because it blocks his illegal entry… and the popular opinion agrees with him, they say he has a right to my assets and property, and they even want to pass some law saying I cannot deny the freak the right to come inside my home!

Let’s see you good-for-nothing-freak… want in?  Knock on my door and ask me for permission… and I warn you that I’ve the right to say : NO!

So when does a wall become one of shame?  I’m sorry but it’s just a wall!  And you, me and the gringos have a right to build a fence to protect our home, our possessions, and provide us with security!  I’ve the right to set up surveillance, hire security, and electrify the freaking fence if I feel like it!

My home.  My rules!

Let’s see how tolerant you are with all those who decide that your house is better looking than their own and that they want in!

How about you… do you have a ‘Wall of Shame’ surrounding your home?
